Cornerways

We chose Cornerways specifically because it appeared to be well suited to our large family and elderly grandparent. We were staying to celebrate my brother’s birthday and, most importantly, my mother’s 60th birthday, so we were really looking forward to a family break. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the condition of the property on arrival, particularly the standard of cleanliness and the number of safety and maintenance issues we encountered. The cleanliness of the property was simply not to an acceptable standard. There was significant dirt, dust, hair and debris across the floors, including underneath and around furniture. We even found a cigarette underneath one of the beds. The toilets were visibly unclean, and there was hair on the pillows and bedding. We ended up cleaning the floors ourselves, with the vacuum collecting a substantial amount of dirt and hair. This is certainly not something we expected to have to do upon arriving at a holiday property. There were also multiple maintenance and safety concerns, some of which we found particularly worrying: -The safety handrails in the accessible toilet were broken and pulling away from the wall. -Several windows were broken, either unable to open properly or unable to lock. -Most concerningly, the window next to the bunk bed in the children’s bedroom had a broken lock. The handle did not operate the lock and the child safety restrictor was also broken. With young children sleeping directly next to this window, we found this extremely concerning. -The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, with the springs clearly noticeable. -The bath and showers did not drain properly, resulting in dirty water building up around your feet. -The downstairs sofa was damaged in one corner and also had missing/broken springs. -The downstairs rug was visibly dirty. -The hot tub was broken and leaking We contacted the owner during our stay to raise our concerns. The owners did apologise and cleaners were subsequently sent out, although the response did not give us the impression that the seriousness of the issues was fully appreciated. Unfortunately, the cleaning carried out was far from satisfactory. A bin bag was left on the stairs, and we even found a broken nail left on the bathroom floor. We subsequently sent further messages to the owners explaining that we were still dissatisfied with the condition of the property. We received no response, and nobody contacted us afterwards to check whether we were satisfied with the outcome. We appreciate that properties can occasionally have maintenance issues, but the sheer number of problems we encountered was extremely disappointing. In particular, the safety concerns should never have been present in a property advertised as suitable for families and an elderly guest. These are issues we would have expected to be identified and resolved before guests arrived, rather than having to discover them ourselves during our stay. The cleanliness was also a major disappointment. Having to clean the property ourselves immediately after arrival was not what we expected, particularly given the price and the way the property is presented in the listing. We chose Corner Ways specifically for an important family celebration and because we needed accommodation suitable for a large family and an elderly family member. Unfortunately, the property fell well below the standard we expected, and the lack of meaningful follow-up after we raised our concerns made the experience even more disappointing. The money we spent on this long weekend does not reflect the standard of stay we had and we are still waiting to hear from the owners who never got back in touch with us.

It was a lovely weekend and so quiet which we liked as a family. Positive: Good for parking. I liked the open planning. Negative: Mattresses were not comfortable as you could feel the springs coming through. Also the windows were not clean and could have done with blinds up at the windows downstairs.

A good place for a family gathering. Positive: The bedroom arrangement worked very well for us. The house was clean and provided most of what we needed. The disabled shower was very good. The hot tub was a good size. The local village shop was an unexpectedly good one. The village pub and play parks/recreation grounds were great spaces to take the children. Negative: For the price, I had hoped for/expected a higher quality of finishes in the house. The table didn't have room for us all. There was a lack of mirrors, hanging places for towels and robes and very limited places to put toiletries in the bathrooms. The garden was mainly shingle. The outside furniture wasn't usable as the cushions were wet.

The lamp was broken and dangerous x some of the seating on the sofa was not comfy x doors on the kitchen where loose x the hot tub had two leaks so they had put sticky tape on them but it was still leaking x and could not find a hose pipe to fill it up x upstairs some mattress’s need replacing and a little t.l.c x the outside could do with a little more grass and and the smell from the farm was sometime very strong x

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Cornerways. The property itself is ideally located on a quiet road next to a farm and across from a camp/caravan park. There's plenty tracks nearby to walk your dog, a decent convenience store just 10 mins walk along the road as well as an excellent fish & chip shop and a great bar/restaurant (Wilson's). First impressions were that the house is bright, spacious and clean. It has been finished to a high standard and the hot tub and EV charger are both great additions. However, we felt the furnishings and equipment within the house let it down a little and this was disappointing. The pillows and mattresses were soft and after 5 nights a few of us had sore backs plus both kids moaned about the lumpy mattresses on the bunks. The wet room shower curtain was coming off the rail and was very mouldy, one seat of the smaller sofa was broken and although very clean, the hot tub obviously had a leak that had been taped but the tape had come off in places leaving a super sticky residue that ended up on the kids swim wear and wouldn't come off! All the broken things have been previously noted by other reviewers so it's frustrating that they haven't been fixed. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to the area but probably not to this particular property.
